Drawing from details and finishes found throughout the residence, the kitchen was completely redefined. The painted flat-panel cabinets are accented with dark- stained moldings that match the new stained doors, counter, and table tops. Decorative cut-outs evoke the look of kitchens contemporary with the construction of the house, while defining the bench end panels, partitions, and even serving to allow for introduction of air-conditioning into the room. The fir ceiling at the breakfast room helps to define that space as a special place, and the custom- designed stencil highlights the frieze that organizes the kitchen ceiling. The result is a kitchen that is based in historic precedent, but also meets the functional demands of an active twenty-first century family.
